:- 1.0 out of 5 stars from Arien R -- E-book formatted terribly--cannot understand it : The ebook was formatted so poorly the meaning is lost on many pages (see attached pictures). Italics were used inconsistently, sections of the book were misplaced, and it was very confusing. I had difficulty understanding where the examples began and end, and the meaning was utterly in the areas where random sections of text seem to have been inserted where they didn't belong. This book itself (in a cleanly formatted version) is absolutely indispensable to any writer, but do NOT buy this ebook!!! ( Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2018 )
- 1.0 out of 5 stars from Jay -- The famous, beloved version of this book is the ... : The famous, beloved version of this book is the version by *Strunk and White* (written a hundred years ago by William Strunk and – importantly – updated by E.B. White), and that's what this product is pretending to be (worse, actually, it's pretending to be the version illustrated by Maira Kalman). In fact, the Kindle version presented here was neither updated by E.B. White nor illustrated by Maira Kalman; it's just the old public domain text. - 2.0 out of 5 stars from Douglas LeBlanc -- A disappointment : I had the impression that I was buying an ebook of a Penguin paperback that featured charming watercolors. Instead I see only one page with a "gallery" of nine small images of charming old typewriters. I should have known the price of 99 cents was too good to be true. I'm thankful to have the text available in Kindle form. ( Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2021 )
- 4.0 out of 5 stars from BigSmiler -- The Bible for writing, BUT... : I've been a professional writer and a member of Writer Critique Groups. We regard The Elements of Style as the foremost authority for writing. It is what settles debates. We give copies as gifts and prizes. However, something is starting to bug me about The Elements of Style. Search for it on Amazon and notice how many different versions pop up. Having a new edition every years means it's entering the fashion industry. Also notice how many author combinations there are. I realize the English language of today is different from 100 years ago, BUT when our Fundamental Guide changes yearly, it's time for something more stable. I suspect the authors are just trying to sell more books. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2013 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from eclecticCritiques -- IF YOU ARE A WRITER - BUY THIS BOOK : Every writer, professional or wanna-Be needs "The Elements of Style" by William Strunk. This amazing book keeps my writing on a path of correctness. It goes everywhere I go, so finally I bought the Kindle edition (Yipee! for Kindle making it available) because toting hardbacks, even paperbacks in my backpack is getting to much for this 69 year-old body. All I need now is my iPod for a quick reference to polish my writing style. ( Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2014 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from BBRITT -- Must-have reference book!! : This grammar book is such a classic, wonderful guide. I absolutely love this version because I adore Maira Kalman’s illustrations. ( Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Frank Castle -- Read This and Write Well, My Child : Every writer, every student, every parent of a student, every professional of every kind who might only write a letter or email ONCE a year SHOULD READ THIS BOOK. Easy to understand, this book gets right to the point and improves your writing immediately. No babbling, no rambling. Just solid advice we all can use. Solid examples we all can understand. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Peter Johnson -- Classic : I orded this as a gift for a friend. I remember fondly when I bought my own copy. I was in San Francisco and I was in love with the place. The air was so light and the light was so airy; the town's got its flaws but I was blind to them, riding the trolley bus, visiting the palace of fine arts, and then I found myself strolling along the harbour and I popped into a book shop aimlessly. I was struck by a small hardback book covered in a bright red fabric (note I'm reviewing the softback). ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 13, 2014 )

The contents page has a three collume table with an empty collum and there are places where the font size is not consistant. This is why I did not give the book a higher rating. The content, however, isn't bad. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 11, 2017 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Mithlesh -- Prefer Illustrated version over the one which doesn't come with illustrations. : I bought both editions—illustrated one and the one without illustrations—and I will suggest that one should go with the one having illustrations. Not simply because it is colourful and vibrant but because of the fact that it has larger margins—you'll need them. ( Reviewed in India on January 26, 2019 )
- 4.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- Easier to read. : Easier to read than the pocket version. Cartoons are not very funny. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 19, 2018 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Wendy -- still relevant : The elements of style is a classic writer's tool that should be in every author's toolbox. Although originally developed decades ago, the guidance provided is as relevant today as it was then. It has joined my thesaurus and dictionary as one of my first go-to helpers by my keyboard. Well worth investing in, and I enjoyed the illustrations in this modern version. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 19, 2013 )
